BlueMountain Capital Management is making inroads into Europe with the addition of David Rubenstein, who will join the firm as chief executive officer of BlueMountain Europe. Rubenstein has an extensive background in OTC derivatives and is a member of the ISDA’s Credit Derivatives Determinations Committee. He previously worked at McKinsey and Company.

The $7 billion investment management firm has also hired new senior staff as inflows from European customers continue to climb. Rubenstein and current Managing Director Noam Leslau will relocate from New York to the firm’s UK offices immediately in order to help drive business development efforts.

With a credit-focused investment strategy, BlueMountain has also hired two additional credit analysts, Adam Feldheim and Jonathan Moore. Both will report to Global Head of Research Peter Greatrex.

The ongoing European debt and credit crisis has provided strategic investment opportunities for BlueMountain and its portfolio managers.

“Our European investor base and AUM both are growing, as pensions and institutions are increasingly becoming more comfortable with relative value credit strategies,” Stephen Siderow, president and co-founder of BlueMountain Capital Management in a statement.

BlueMountain was unavailable for further comment.
