Strong Net Outflows From UCITS in June

The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) has published its latest monthly Investment Fund Industry Fact Sheet, which provides net sales data on UCITS and AIFs for June 2022, at European level and by country of fund domiciliation.

Bernard Delbecque, Senior Director for Economics and Research at EFAMA, commented: “In June 2022 bond funds were hit by mounting concerns over interest rate hikes and equity funds by recession fears, resulting in net sales of UCITS at their lowest level since October 2008 (excluding the Covid-19 impact in March 2020).”

The main developments in June 2022 can be summarised as follows:

  • Net sales of UCITS and AIFs registered net outflows of EUR 72 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 36 billion in May.
  • UCITS recorded net outflows of EUR 69 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 33 billion in May.

o   Long-term UCITS (UCITS excluding money market funds) registered net outflows of EUR 63 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 22 billion in May.

–       Equity funds recorded net outflows of EUR 18 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 3 billion in May.

–       Bond funds registered net outflows of EUR 36 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 17 billion in May.

–       Multi-asset funds recorded net outflows of EUR 6 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 4 billion in May.

o   UCITS money market funds recorded net outflows of EUR 6 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 11 billion in May.

  • AIFs registered net outflows of EUR 2.5 billion, compared to net outflows of EUR 2.9 billion in May.
  • Total net assets of UCITS and AIFs decreased by 3.7% in June to EUR 19,476 billion.
