On Saturday, June 2, New York’s young and beautiful will descend upon Liberty State Park to cheer on Nacho Figueras and his Black Watch polo team, bask in the sun, and sip on Veuve Clicquot, the event’s sponsor, all the while. One of the most stylish events of the New York social calendar, the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic can expect a chic and star-studded guest list, and this year, the match has the Statue of Liberty as a stunning backdrop (Roosevelt Island, which has hosted the Classic since its inception in 2008, is currently under renovation).

Beginning at 10 a.m. on June 2, guests will be transported to Liberty Island State Park either by ferry from Battery Park City in Manhattan or by New Jersey Transit Light Rail (driving to and parking at the event site is not permitted). With picnic baskets available for early reserve, attendees can nosh on perfectly paired sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, and cheeses from local farms, and there will, of course, be extravagant amounts of champagne on hand. Ending at 5:30 p.m. this all-day event will also feature games such as badminton and, per tradition, the usual divot stomping.

Aside from celebrating the traditions of polo, The Classic also has philanthropic aims: for instance, in past years, charitable efforts were directed towards a nonprofit seeking to help rebuild Haiti; this year, some of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Friends of Liberty State Park as well as to an as-yet-unnamed organization.
