Eugenie Curtil, Global Head of FX Sales, Bank of America, won Excellence in Sales & Trading (FX) at Markets Media’s 2025 European Women in Finance Awards. We caught up with Eugenie to learn more.
Eugenie, how does it feel to receive the Excellence in Sales & Trading (FX) award?
It’s an incredible honour and a proud moment. This recognition reflects the collective effort of our FX team and partners across the globe and the trust of our clients. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to FX’s success and excited about what’s ahead.
What experiences or decisions do you believe were most influential in leading you to this point?
I believe that consistent hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence have been the most influential factors in my journey. There were no shortcuts – only a steady focus on learning, adapting, and delivering value. Every challenge became an opportunity to grow, and every decision was guided by long-term impact and a strong ambition to do what’s right. Success in this field demands effort, discipline, and integrity. I’ve learned that progress is built step by step, there are no quick wins. That mindset has shaped my career and continues to drive me forward.
What guidance would you offer to women beginning their careers in FX trading and sales?
My advice to women starting out in FX trading and sales is to embrace your ambition and trust your capabilities. Our industry demands resilience, precision, and confidence. Don’t hesitate to speak up, ask questions, and take ownership. Surround yourself with mentors and allies who challenge and support you. Your perspective is valuable, and your presence matters. Every step you take helps shape a more inclusive and dynamic future.
Who have been the key mentors or colleagues shaping your professional development?
My development has been deeply influenced by working closely with colleagues across different functions. I’ve learned a great deal from my colleagues in trading, in research and in banking to just name a few. Their mentorship has broadened my perspective, helping me connect market dynamics with client needs. These cross-functional interactions have been essential in building a well-rounded approach to sales. In FX, success comes from teamwork, and the ability to learn from those who see the market through a different lens is a real advantage.
What personal skills or perspectives have proven most valuable in your leadership role?
One of the most valuable perspectives I’ve developed is a collaborative mindset—recognizing that leadership is not about having all the answers, but about knowing how to bring together diverse expertise. I’ve learned to challenge my own assumptions, stay open to feedback, and rely on colleagues whose skills complement mine. We can only deliver as a team.
