Nasdaq Iceland Appoints Cboe Clear Europe

Appointment introduces the benefits of central clearing to the Icelandic equity market and further expands Cboe Clear Europe’s pan-European clearing network

Cboe Clear Europe, the leading pan-European central counterparty (CCP), has been selected to be the CCP for Nasdaq Iceland, with a planned implementation in 2028 subject to regulatory approvals.

This initiative represents a significant milestone for the Icelandic market and supporting the continued development of the country’s capital markets. The introduction of central clearing is expected to align the market more closely with international standards while delivering enhanced risk management, improved operational efficiency, greater capital efficiency and increased accessibility for both domestic and international investors.

It also aligns with Cboe Clear Europe’s strategy to provide the broadest venue coverage of any European CCP. The CCP currently provides clearing services to 55 cash equities trading venues and market segments across Europe, enabling participants to consolidate activity through a single pan-European CCP regardless of where they trade. This delivers significant benefits through multilateral netting, reduced counterparty risk, and streamlined post-trade processing, while supporting the development of more competitive, efficient, and integrated capital markets across Europe.

Vikesh Patel, Global Head of Clearing and President, Cboe Clear Europe, said:

“We are delighted to have been selected as the CCP for Nasdaq Iceland, bringing the benefits of central clearing to a new market and further expanding our pan-European clearing network. The introduction of central clearing will help align Iceland with international standards, support the long-term growth of its capital markets, and furthers our mission to support the development of more efficient, competitive and integrated capital markets across Europe. We look forward to partnering with Nasdaq Iceland and market participants to deliver a successful implementation and support the market’s continued growth.”
