Currency ETPs Benefit From Sterling Volatility
  • Aviva Investors has launched a new tokenised share class for the Aviva Investors Sterling (GBP) Liquidity Fund, allowing investment in the fund in tokenised format, on the XRP Ledger
  • This marks the second tokenisation of an existing Aviva Investors fund, and following the launch of a tokenised share class for the firm’s USD Liquidity Fund back in July 2026
  • This new share class launch means that Aviva Investors is now one of the largest tokenised Money Market Fund providers in Europe

Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva plc, and Ripple, the leading provider of blockchain-based enterprise solutions across traditional and digital finance, have announced the launch of a new tokenised share class of the Aviva Investors Sterling (GBP) Liquidity Fund – the firm’s largest fund with approximately £22 billion in assets under management. This marks an expansion of Aviva Investors’ tokenised fund offering, following the launch of a tokenised share class for the firm’s USD Liquidity Fund earlier this year.

Furthermore, this launch means that Aviva Investors is now one of the largest asset management providers of tokenised MMFs in Europe, with over £86m ($116m) invested across its two tokenised share class offerings. Aviva has invested in the new tokenised share class of the Sterling Liquidity Fund, with an investment of £50m ($66m).

The Fund is an Ireland-domiciled UCITS Money Markets Fund. The Fund uses the “digital twin” model, an approach that allows us to introduce a digital access layer, where holdings can be represented on-chain while maintaining the integrity of the existing off-chain fund structure.

The tokenised Sterling Liquidity Fund is available on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). Investors benefit from the same investment objective, risk profile, liquidity characteristics and regulatory protections as the conventional fund, which was initially launched in 2002. The Fund targets low-risk returns and daily liquidity by offering investors exposure to high-grade UK Sterling-denominated short-term debt instruments.

This new share class launch has again been supported by Komainu, a regulated institutional digital asset custodian, alongside Licuido, a digital infrastructure platform that enables asset management companies to tokenise and trade real world assets. The new share class is available to eligible investors with digital wallets, with all assets held by the fund’s custodian, The Bank of New York Mellon. The structure has been designed to operate within existing regulatory frameworks, providing a scalable foundation for future innovation in fund distribution and market infrastructure.

The XRPL will enable Aviva Investors to reliably issue and manage the tokenised share class of the GBP Liquidity Fund using fast, secure, low-cost blockchain transactions, in an energy efficient format. Since 2012, the network has processed more than 4 billion transactions, supports nearly 8 million active wallets, and is maintained by 130+ independent validators.

Mark Versey, CEO, Aviva Investors, said:

“We’re thrilled to be able to announce the launch of our second fund in the tokenisation space, with the addition of the new tokenised share class for our GBP Liquidity Fund. This expansion of our tokenised offering shows our clear intent to be a leader in this area and sets the groundwork for a future expansion of our capabilities. We believe tokenised funds can increase efficiency and ultimately lead to improved client outcomes.

Our partnership with Ripple has once again been vital to our efforts, and we look forward to continuing working together, as we look to further explore the possibilities of tokenisation.”

Nigel Khakoo, Senior Vice President, Trading and Markets, Ripple:

“We are delighted to support Aviva Investors’ second tokenised fund launch on the XRP Ledger, which highlights the rapid pace of fund tokenisation across the investment industry. Markets are moving to 24/7 access and settlement is moving to real-time, always-on rails; this launch shows what that looks like in practice. As the bridge between traditional and digital finance, Ripple is helping institutions move, manage, hold and tokenise value on the XRP Ledger, which is bringing the compliance, privacy and security features needed by institutions.”
