Salvatore Ferragamo Launches Online Sale Today

01.26.2012

Italian luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo is debuting its spring and summer ready-to-wear line for American shoppers on its website today, joining other designers who are increasingly moving sales operations online.

Gisele isn’t available online, but her Ferragamo dress, clutch, and shoes are.

In its first-ever online trunk show, Ferragamo showcases warm weather-friendly pieces featuring bright colors and bold patterns. Dresses are cut on the bias to create figure-flattering flow, and each piece, as with most other ready-to-wear lines, is meant to coordinate with other items in the line.

True to Ferragamo’s aesthetic, none of the pieces in this spring and summer 2012 line are designed for subtlety or, for that matter, any wallflowers. The color palette sticks strictly to dazzlingly saturated jewel tones, particularly flaming reds, magentas and vibrant blues, teals, and violets; patterns consist of tropical florals and amped-up cheetah prints, the most subtle being a pinstripe–in fire-engine red, of course. Certain dresses–one in a muted, shining gold, another in a haltered jungle print, and a gown in teal florals and cheetah print–are unmistakeably the Italian designer’s look. Strapless, ankle-length jumpsuits in intense tropical patterns, clearly made for those with edgier tastes, are sure to set a trend for the next two summer seasons (expect knockoffs at your nearest H&M, Zara, and other mainstream retailers soon).

Accessories are similarly brightly colored and distinctively cut: sashes are cut from the same bold swaths of cheetah-print silk, and Ferragamo’s signature stilettos are reborn in the same vivid tones as the clothing in this line, with combinations of teal and purple, red and purple, and, of course, snakeskin.

Unique to Ferragamo’s online store is a feature called “Style Yourself”: a mannequin onscreen stands ready for the shopper to click and freely combine pieces from the spring and summer line, with a sidebar on the right conveniently adding up all choices for pre-order.

This particular line is meant for those who prefer to invest in high-quality design and construction: a silk satin red jacket, cut closely at the waist with a wide, swooping collar, is available for $2,040; its owner, however, can rest assured that this type of classic piece in such a unique fabric and color can be a perennial staple (and will certainly add to one’s specific “look”). Leather, long-strapped drawstring bags in suede, leather, or some combination of the two, are made in classic shapes that are likely to sell very well at high-end retailers.

Other designers, such as Marc Jacobs, also have their spring and summer ready-to-wear lines available online for pre-order; Ferragamo’s is available at trunkshow.ferragamo.com
