This Week in Beer Events: NYC, Chicago, Boston

At this weekend’s upcoming St. Patrick’s Day, everyone will become Irish and all the beer in town will turn green. Get a head start and try a new brew this week at one of these events.

NEW YORK

Tuesday, March 13: Amber/Red Ales and Lagers at Jimmy’s No. 43, East Village. This regular weekly event features a $10 tasting flight, complete with beer expert. 7:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., 43 East 7th St. No reservation needed.

Wednesday, March 14: Beer and Bourbon Tasting at Idle Hands Bar, Lower East Side. $10 gets you a pint of beer (you choose from 3 options) to go along with a dram of Kentucky’s Red State Blue State Bourbon. 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., 25 Avenue B, downstairs. Reservation suggested, not required.

Sunday, March 18: Ithaca Brewing Company at Blind Tiger Ale House, Greenwich Village. Still have room for more beer on the day after St. Patty’s? Head over to this hip brew joint at 3 p.m. for some chicken & chorizo tacos or a lamb burger to go with Ithaca’s offerings. 3:00 p.m., 281 Bleecker Street. No reservation needed.

CHICAGO

Wednesday, March 14: Pi Observance Day at Local Option. In honor of the lengthy mathematical constant, this joint will offer up 31 beers beginning at 3:14 p.m. (3.14 is pi–get it?). 3:14 p.m. – 2:00 a.m., 1102 West Webster Avenue. No reservation needed.

Thursday, March 15: Four-Year Vertical Tasting of Kentucky Breakfast Stout at Sheffield’s Chicago. $50 gives you access to this exclusive tasting, which features Founders Brewery’s 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 releases of their Kentucky Breakfast Stout for comparison. 6:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m., 3258 North Sheffield Avenue. Saturday, March 17: Whiskey Barrel-Aged Beer Fest at Delilah’s. Get your St. Patrick’s Day started with some high-quality, super tasty beers at this whiskey-centric bar. Expect some surprisingly smoky or surprisingly sweet notes in your brews, too. $20, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., 2771 North Lincoln Avenue.

BOSTON

Tuesday, March 13: Dinner Pairing with Berkshire Brewing Company at Grafton Street Pub. For $40, a four-course meal paired with craft beers from this South Deerfield, MA brewery is yours. 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., 1230 Massachusetts Avenue. Reservation required; call 617-497-0400.

Wednesday, March 14: Cape Ann Brewing Company Beer Dinner at Cambridge Common. Pair Cape Ann’s Fisherman IPA with a 3-course menu, all for $49. Beer dinners not really your thing? The next night, March 15, Cambridge Common hosts six taps of Sam Adams’ latest brews. Beer dinner from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.; Sam Adams night on March 15 is until close. 1667 Massachusetts Avenue. Thursday, March 15: Victory Brewing Company Beer Social at The Lower Depths. Five of Victory Brewing Co.’s creations–a double IPA, a stout, an ale, a wheat beer, and a pilsner–will be out for your perusal at this tap room. 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., 476 Commonwealth Avenue. No reservations needed.
