ETFGI reports actively managed ETFs listed globally gathered US$9.74 billion in net inflows during November 2022

LONDON — December 28, 2022 — ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that actively managed ETFs listed globally gathered 9.74 billion in net inflows of during November, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$109.60 billion. Assets invested in actively managed ETFs/ETPs increased by 5.9%, from US$464 billion at the end of October 2022 to US$491 billion, according to ETFGI’s November 2022 Active ETF and ETP industry landscape insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)

Highlights

  • Net inflows of $9.74 Bn during November 2022.
  • Year-to-date net inflows of $109.60 Bn in 2022 are the second highest on record, after year-to-date net inflows in 2021 of $126.52 Bn.
  • 32nd month of consecutive net inflows.
  • $491 Bn invested in actively managed ETFs listed globally at the end of November 2022.
  • Assets increased 11.1% year-to-date in 2022, going from $442 Bn at the end of 2021 to $491 Bn.

“The S&P 500 increased by 5.59 % in November but is down 13.10% YTD in 2022. Developed markets excluding the US increased by 10.63% in November but are down 15.67% YTD in 2022. Hong Kong (up 24.17%) and Netherlands (up 17.45%) saw the largest increases amongst the developed markets in November. Emerging markets increased by 13.26% during November but are down 16.86% YTD in 2022. China (up 27.38%) and Turkey (up 24.58%) saw the largest increases amongst emerging markets in November.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder and owner of ETFGI.

There were 1,835 actively managed ETFs listed globally, with 2,333 listings, assets of US$491 Bn, from 342 providers listed on 31 exchanges in 23 countries at the end of November 2022.

Equity focused actively managed ETFs/ETPs listed globally gathered net inflows of $9.06 Bn over November, bringing year to date net inflows to $77.43 Bn, higher than the $63.89 Bn in net inflows equity products had attracted at this point in 2021. Fixed Income focused actively managed ETFs/ETPs listed globally attracted net inflows of $826 Mn during November, bringing net inflows for the year through November 2022 to $20.33 Bn, lower than the $47.15 Bn in net inflows fixed income products had reported in Year-to-date 2021.

Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 active ETFs/ETPs by net new assets, which collectively gathered
$7.35 Bn during November. JPMorgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI US) gathered $1.55 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
