CBOE Names John F. Deters Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Corporate Initiatives

CHICAGO, Dec. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Chicago Board Options Exchange, Incorporated® (CBOE®) announced today that it has appointed John F. Deters as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Corporate Initiatives. Deters, 42, is based in Chicago and reports to Edward T. Tilly, Chief Executive Officer, CBOE Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBOE). Deters succeeds Richard G. DuFour, CBOE Executive Vice President, Corporate Planning and Development, who is retiring at the end of the year.

In his new role, Deters will conduct analyses of CBOE’s corporate strategies; coordinate development of corporate goals and initiatives; evaluate business opportunities; negotiate product license agreements and maintain relationships with index licensors and other corporate partners.

Prior to joining CBOE, Deters served as Vice President, Financial Institutions Group, Investment Banking, for Barclays since 2008, and in a similar capacity for Lehman Brothers from 2006 to 2008. At both firms, he developed multi-business-line strategic analyses for financial and banking clients, structured and executed a wide variety of corporate financing transactions, and led execution teams in domestic and international merger and acquisition transactions in financial services, including the acquisition of Dow Jones Indexes by CME Group and the formation of the S&P Dow Jones Indices joint venture and related licensing agreements.

Deters served as an Associate in the M&A practice group for the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meager & Flom LLP, in New York, London and Frankfurt, for several periods between 2001 to 2004. He also worked in the Banking Regulation Division for the Institute of International Finance and for the Office of International Affairs for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Deters holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, a JD/Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor’s degree in history from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
