The integration of continuous price discovery into Appital’s platform combines buy-side liquidity with institutional risk capacity within electronic reach

Appital, the institutional liquidity platform built exclusively for the buy-side, announces Citadel Securities will act as a liquidity provider, integrating its superior pricing and execution capabilities directly into the Appital platform. This will enable continuous access to significant institutional liquidity across more than 1,500 European equities.

For buy-side traders, this fundamentally expands what can be achieved electronically. Significant liquidity, from Large-in-Scale (LIS) through to multiple days’ average daily volume, can now be discovered and executed electronically.

A new approach to liquidity discovery

For decades, institutional investors have faced a fundamental trade-off: wait for natural liquidity to emerge, or risk market impact by disclosing sensitive information to discover it. Appital has created a third option.

Continuous price discovery provides a dynamic view of institutional risk capacity throughout the trading day. Instead of relying on individual, point-in-time enquiries, investors can continuously assess where deep liquidity resides and choose precisely when to execute.

This capability complements Appital’s existing natural buy-side liquidity network. By bringing natural buy-side liquidity with institutional risk into a trusted electronic environment, Appital continues to focus 100% on the buy-side.

Mark Badyra, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Appital, said: We are taking trades that have historically required high-touch interaction and bringing them within a single electronic click. From LIS to potentially multiple days’ volume, the scale of firm liquidity that can now be discovered and executed electronically is extraordinary. This fundamentally redefines what is possible in electronic trading.”

Continuous liquidity with immediate value

For Appital clients, continuous price discovery establishes a reliable source of liquidity that is available within the platform throughout the entire trading day. This removes the traditional hurdle where clients must wait for organic network density to build before deriving value from the platform. When a firm joins, orders can quickly surface and enhance potential liquidity opportunities.

Brian Guckian, Chief Business Development Officer of Appital, added: “There is now a continuous wave of significant, actionable liquidity within Appital throughout the trading day. Clients can access that liquidity immediately, without revealing their trading intentions. That moves Appital from a valuable source of opportunity to an essential part of the institutional trading toolkit.”

Key Benefits of Continuous Price Discovery:

  • Unprecedented Scale: Offers on-platform liquidity across more than 1,500 European equities, spanning from LIS to multiple days’ volume.
  • Immediate Execution: Fully electronic liquidity discovery and execution allows buy-side firms to act the moment opportunity arises.
  • Confidentiality: Trading intentions are not disclosed prior to order submission.
  • Buy-side only: Appital remains exclusively focused on institutional asset managers, providing a trusted environment without bank intermediation.

Marko Taric, Head of EMEA Semi-Systematic Equities, Citadel Securities, said: “Appital is giving buy-side firms more choice in how they source and access institutional liquidity at scale, and helping them execute with greater flexibility and confidence. We are pleased to bring Citadel Securities’ market making and execution capabilities to the platform, expanding the ways institutional investors can access deep, reliable liquidity.”

The new capability is currently being introduced via a controlled rollout to Appital’s institutional client network, ahead of broader market availability.
