Crowdcube, LSE Make Private Markets More Inclusive

Outlook 2016: Alexander Lehmann, LSEG

Big news: Crowdcube has teamed up with the London Stock Exchange to make private markets more inclusive than ever before.

Through this landmark partnership, hundreds of thousands of eligible Crowdcube investors will now get the chance to invest in later-stage, high-growth private companies on the same terms as institutional investors.

Why is this such a big deal?

Private companies are staying private for longer. That means many of the most exciting opportunities have historically been off-limits to everyday investors. Now, thanks to the Exchange’s new Private Securities Market (PISCES) and Crowdcube’s role as a Registered Auction Agent, those opportunities are opening up. Our investors will be able to participate in liquidity events for some of Europe’s most innovative companies before they even think about an IPO.

Julia Hoggett, CEO, London Stock Exchange plc, said:

“This partnership is a unique opportunity to enable private companies and investors to utilise the same infrastructure and technology that underpins the London Stock Exchange’s public markets, while leveraging Crowdcube’s experience as a leading private markets investment platform in the UK. We are delighted to be working together with Crowdcube as we advance our shared vision for a connected and inclusive funding continuum.”

As Matt Cooper, Co-CEO of Crowdcube, explains:

“Our objectives in partnership with the London Stock Exchange are clear: to make the UK the most attractive place for private companies to scale, and to give as many investors as possible the chance to share in the value those companies create.”

For companies, this creates a powerful new way to reward employees, attract and retain talent, and turn loyal customers into shareholders while continuing to scale. For investors, it means greater access, greater choice, and the chance to share in the value these companies create.

As UK Tech News highlighted in their coverage, this is an innovative step that bridges the gap between public and private markets in a way that hasn’t been done before in Europe or the US.

We’re proud to be working alongside the London Stock Exchange to bring this vision to life, and even prouder that our community of investors will be at the heart of it.
