First Digital Asset Tracking U.S. Home Price Index Launches

Worth roughly $55 trillion and comparable in size to the entire S&P 500, U.S. residential housing is one of the world’s largest asset classes. Yet unlike equities, Treasuries, or gold, investors have lacked a simple, liquid way to hold index-level exposure to U.S. home prices. Benchmarks such as the FHFA House Price Index and the Case-Shiller Index exist, but the benchmarks themselves are not investable products. The usual alternatives – homebuilder stocks and public or private REITs – bury home price exposure under operating leverage, management decisions, and equity-market beta. As a result, the largest store of household wealth in America has remained one of the hardest asset classes to own.

Galaxy is excited to announce our $50M commitment to USHP, the first digital asset referencing a U.S. home price index, through USHP Limited’s pre-launch institutional round.

The Onchain Efficient Frontier

Our thesis at Galaxy is that capital markets are moving onchain, and that an Onchain Efficient Frontier is forming across the full spectrum of risk and return profiles. To date, that frontier has been built largely on crypto-native sources of yield: basis trades, rehypothecation, leverage, and token incentives. Meanwhile, roughly $300 billion of stablecoin supply sits idle, generating little or no yield while quietly losing ground to inflation.

We believe the next chapter of onchain asset management will connect that capital to real-world assets with durable, exogenous yield. The strongest candidates are large, historically difficult-to-access asset classes, backed by genuine economic activity rather than reflexive incentives. Few asset classes fit that description better than U.S. housing.

U.S. housing is one of the deepest, most stable sources of long-term returns in global markets, yet it has remained largely inaccessible as a simple, liquid index investment. USHP is designed to change that.

A New Way to Access the World’s Largest Asset Class

For generations, U.S. real estate has been one of the most dependable engines of household wealth, and also one of the least accessible. Investing has traditionally required a substantial down payment, a mortgage, local market expertise, and the ongoing responsibilities of property ownership.

USHP changes that. It will launch on Ethereum and provide eligible participants liquid, indexed exposure to U.S. home prices without the burdens of owning or managing physical property.

We believe the asset class’s historically low volatility, relatively low correlation with other financial assets, and its backing by dollar-denominated real assets will appeal to a range of eligible (non-U.S.) investors. Beyond traditional real estate investors, we believe crypto-native institutions that hold stablecoins, tokenized Treasuries, and other cryptoassets may also value the combination of yield and index-linked exposure that USHP is designed to provide.

Over time, we expect that the blockchain and tokenization infrastructure underpinning USHP will be used to support an entirely new category of investment products designed for U.S. homebuyers, creating new ways for households to access, manage, and participate in the economics of residential real estate.

Why We Are Investing

At Galaxy, we invest in companies that are working to build the financial infrastructure of the future. Throughout the history of capital markets, some of the most impactful innovations have made large, valuable asset classes easier to access, own, and trade. We believe tokenization will do the same for many of the world’s largest markets, and U.S. residential real estate is among the most compelling opportunities.

Our experience backing companies such as Ethena and Ornn has reinforced our belief that when novel financial products solve a real market need and are designed to scale, adoption can accelerate quickly. We believe USHP has the potential to become another important building block in the onchain economy.

We are thrilled to partner with the founding team of the platform that powers USHP. They pair deep crypto-native investing and operating experience with Blackstone Real Estate pedigree and a track record scaling a cutting-edge institutional real estate investment platform. That combination is a pairing we don’t see often.
