HKEX Offers Green Equity Designation

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is pleased to announce the launch of HKEX Green Equity, a new voluntary designation programme designed to help investors more readily identify Hong Kong-listed companies with significant green business activities.

Investors globally are seeking more ways to identify companies with tangible contributions to the green economy. HKEX Green Equity, which is aligned with similar globally-recognised frameworks, will form a key part of HKEX’s low-carbon transition ecosystem, providing a transparent framework and independent assessment process that helps investors identify qualifying green businesses.

HKEX Group General Counsel and Group Chief Sustainability Officer, Paul Chow, said: “Investor demand for sustainable investment opportunities continues to grow, creating a greater need for credible and transparent ways to identify companies contributing to the green economy. Through a transparent framework and independent assessment process, HKEX Green Equity will help strengthen visibility for qualifying companies, support informed investment decisions and further reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a leading international sustainable finance hub. We strongly encourage our issuers and prospective issuers with a strong commitment to the green economy to consider applying for this important designation.”

HKEX Green Equity complements the Group’s broader sustainability offerings, from climate disclosures to products available through Core Climate, including carbon credits and Green Electricity Certificates (GECs), supporting companies at different stages of their sustainability journey. It also helps promote the adoption of the Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance in capital markets and enhances the visibility of qualifying green businesses to investors globally.

Eligible companies will be assessed by independent Recognised Reviewers based on the HKEX Green Equity Framework, which evaluates the extent to which a company’s activities contribute to the green economy. Companies that successfully meet the framework requirements will be awarded the HKEX Green Equity designation1 and will be entitled to use the designation mark, subject to ongoing compliance and annual reassessments.

A list of approved Recognised Reviewers is published on the dedicated HKEX Green Equity webpage. Companies interested in seeking the designation are welcome to apply from today.

More information on the HKEX Green Equity Framework, eligibility requirements and application process is available on the HKEX website.
