  • The partnership caters to the growing institutional demand for fixed income products in DeFi, initially focusing on lending and borrowing markets that meet established standards of governance, compliance, and risk control.
  • Keyring will address key barriers to institutional adoption in on-chain markets, including permissioning, insurance, governance, and settlement.
  • Laser Digital’s Asset Management division will bring its track record in structuring on-chain products and building institutional-grade risk governance frameworks.

Laser Digital , the digital assets subsidiary of Nomura Group, has announced a strategic partnership with Keyring Network to develop institutional-grade fixed income products for qualifying participants. The partnership reflects the continued maturation of on-chain markets and growing institutional demand for fixed income strategies that meet established standards of governance, compliance, and risk control.

Under the partnership, Keyring will provide infrastructure and tooling to support specific lending and borrowing markets, including access verification, quantitative risk parameterisation, and liquidation framework design. Laser Digital’s Asset Management division will contribute institutional governance standards, portfolio structuring perspectives, and market practice expertise.

Responsibilities will be defined on a contract-by-contract basis to reflect the specific strategy, asset type, and risk profile.

Commenting on the partnership, Jez Mohideen, Co-founder and CEO of Laser Digital, said, “Institutional interest in on-chain fixed income stems from real opportunity, but constraints remain. Our partnership with Keyring focuses on building solutions to support assets whose behaviour resembles conventional fixed income instruments rather than speculative crypto tokens, while preserving the efficiency benefits of on-chain settlement.”

“Spanning the interlinked asset classes of rates and credit, fixed income is the largest global market. Despite multi-year exponential growth in tokenised assets, we haven’t yet scratched the surface,” said Alex McFarlane, Founder and CEO of Keyring Network. “By combining Laser Digital’s institutional experience with our DeFi native tooling, we aim to enable fixed income strategies that can function at institutional scale on-chain and open the gateway to global markets.”

The Fixed Income Thesis

Fixed income is the largest asset class in global finance, and as more tokenised assets move on-chain, DeFi lending markets need to evolve from infrastructure designed for billions of crypto-native liquidity into infrastructure capable of supporting institutional fixed income at scale.

Today’s open DeFi lending infrastructure still faces four core constraints that limit institutional adoption: permissioning, exploit risk, governance, and settlement. Unrestricted counterparty access creates compliance exposure; smart-contract and protocol exploits create unquantifiable tail risk; insufficient institutional oversight limits allocator confidence; and off-chain settlement and clearing are misaligned with DeFi’s assumptions of instantaneous settlement. This makes participation on the borrower side costly, operationally inefficient and unnecessarily risky for lenders.

Keyring and Laser Digital are partnering to address these constraints through a framework designed for institutional markets. The framework combines scalable zero-knowledge permissioning, quantitative risk modelling, institutional governance standards, cyber insurance and risk-control mechanisms, as well as settlement technology through Keyring’s [un]wind. This will enable on-chain products to scale beyond today’s DeFi liquidity base and support wider markets.

The first markets are now ready to go live first on Euler Finance, expanding to other partners and products, with additional strategies launching in a phased manner.
