Northern Trust AM Names Anwiti Bahuguna Global Co-CIO

Northern Trust Asset Management, a leading global investment management firm with $1.3 trillion in assets under management as of June 30, 2025, has appointed Anwiti Bahuguna, Ph.D. as global co-chief investment officer. She joins current Global Co-Chief Investment Officer Christian Roth, CFA and succeeds Michael Hunstad, Ph.D., who was recently named president of Northern Trust Asset Management.

In this role, Bahuguna will oversee Northern Trust Asset Management’s broad range of investment capabilities from index, fundamental, quantitative and tax-advantaged strategies to active, multi-asset class solutions and alternative investments. In partnership with Roth, she will be responsible for investment performance, process and philosophy, while leading an investment team of more than 300 professionals globally. She will be a member of the Asset Management Leadership Group, Investment Policy Committee and Risk Committee. Bahuguna is based in Chicago and reports to Northern Trust Asset Management President Michael Hunstad.

“Anwiti brings global investment experience and deep economic expertise to this role,” Hunstad said. “Her proven ability to develop multi-asset strategies, build and lead high-performing teams, and navigate the complexities of global markets will help drive our clients’ investment success. I am confident that Anwiti will elevate our investment process and deliver value to investors worldwide.”

During her 27 years in the investment industry, Bahuguna has built and strengthened global investment teams and developed multi-asset strategies using equities, fixed income and alternative investments. Most recently, Bahuguna was deputy global chief investment officer for Northern Trust Asset Management, CIO of multi-asset investments, and head of retirement and not-for-profit OCIO investment teams. Previously, she spent two decades at Columbia Threadneedle, where she served as head of U.S. multi-asset strategy.

Bahuguna holds a doctorate in economics from Northeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. She serves on the Board of Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust, where she is a member of the finance committee.
