Emerging Market FX Trading: Liquidity Challenges

Centrifuge launched an emerging markets debt strategy managed by Schroders, bringing the expertise of one of the world’s largest active asset managers to digital capital markets on Solana. The launch will introduce the Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond fund, providing tokenized exposure to this Schroders strategy.

For Schroders, one of the world’s leading active asset managers with over $1 trillion in assets under management, the launch builds on the firm’s increasing momentum in digital assets and marks its first deployment on Solana. Schroders has been investing in emerging markets debt for more than 50 years, with more than 40 dedicated EMD investment professionals. Its investment capabilities span sovereign, corporate and local-currency strategies.

“Bringing Schroders ISF Emerging Markets Bond fund onchain represents an important evolution in the market. Until now, onchain fixed income has largely been built around cash and short-duration government securities. Emerging markets debt introduces a fundamentally different source of risk and return, backed by one of the world’s most experienced active managers in the asset class.”
– Anil Sood, Chief Strategy and Growth Officer, Centrifuge

For decades, emerging markets debt has been an established allocation within institutional portfolios, providing exposure to sovereigns, companies, currencies and economic cycles across a wide range of markets. Yet that opportunity set has remained only lightly represented onchain.

Now, the opportunity is not simply to tokenize another fund. It is to make the investment capabilities of the world’s leading asset managers programmable and accessible within digital capital markets, so they can become building blocks for vaults, collateral, financial applications and entirely new forms of distribution.

“This launch is further evidence of our commitment to developing world-class investment solutions that meet the evolving needs of investors in the digital age. Drawing on our extensive experience in emerging markets debt, we are tokenising this specific investment strategy and issuing it on Solana, marking our first deployment on the network. Working with Centrifuge enables us to make our expertise in this area available to a new generation of investors and continue to innovate in the delivery of investment solutions.”
– Marita Mcginley, Head of Operations, APAC and Digital Assets, Schroders

“Emerging markets debt is an asset class where experience, local insight and active management are particularly important. We have spent decades building specialist capabilities across these markets to ensure we are offering the best outcomes to our clients. As the digital financial ecosystem develops, we also recognise the importance of bringing relevant emerging markets debt opportunities onchain, helping to make the asset class more accessible and fit for the future.”
– John Mensack, Senior Investment Director, Fixed Income, Schroders

Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond initially launches on the Solana network, bringing Schroders’ emerging markets debt expertise into one of the largest ecosystems for tokenized real-world assets, with more than $4 billion in RWA value onchain. The launch reflects a broader shift in how institutional investment products are being distributed: not through closed, standalone tokenization environments, but through public blockchain infrastructure where assets can connect directly with investors, applications, liquidity venues and financial protocols.

“The arrival of an asset manager like Schroders marks a new stage for onchain capital markets. We are moving beyond tokenized cash products toward a market where sophisticated, actively managed strategies can be issued, distributed and integrated on public blockchain infrastructure. Centrifuge bringing the Schroders tokenized strategy to Solana is a strong testament to how far the industry has matured.”
– Nick Ducoff, Head of Institutional Growth, Solana Foundation

The launch reflects a broader transition underway across asset management. As tokenization expands from individual funds to professionally managed portfolios and investment strategies, Centrifuge is building the infrastructure, operating model and market connectivity required for leading asset managers like Schroders to start operating onchain at scale from day one.
