Waves of information engulf financial services companies.

Capital markets firms and the companies that service them are forming internal organizations to deal with mind-numbing data management issues brought on by regulations and information overload.

First Derivatives, a provider of capital markets software and consulting services, has formed a dedicated data management solutions division to drive a global data approach as a coherent strategic initiative

“First Derivatives believes data management is a distinct industry discipline, and the purpose of the division is to invest and grow data as a core horizontal area of expertise,” Dale Richards, president of U.S. operations and global head of data management at First Derivatives, told Markets Media. “Our portfolio of data management assets is significant and the impetus for a division was maximizing organizational strength to leverage these data assets.”

Data management traverses and integrates the diverse worlds of reference, time series, and tick market data, he said.

“The key to success is innovation across these data domains via a combination portfolio of software-as-a-service models, open enterprise software and integration tools, and global professional services,” said Richards.

First Derivatives designs and develops data and trading systems across front, middle and back-office operations.
It possesses capital market domain knowledge with expertise in leading financial services systems (such as Calypso, Murex, Opics, Summit, Principia, Opus, Wall Street, kdb+, etc).

It’s launched Delta Data Factory, a new service within its Delta suite of data, trading and risk apps and services.

Delta Data Factory is a hosted data management service that provides targeted reference data processing as a utility to buyers and sellers of data.

“It is a managed service for data operated as a pay-for-use service bureau that acts as a virtual data management machine,” Richards said. “Customers can off-load processing of all in-bound data and rapidly transform, enrich, distribute and integrate data without the investment of a full data management platform. It is designed to be a very cost effective alternative to selected data management operational functions.”
