BNP Paribas, Mistral Extend AI Partnership
  • BNP Paribas has renewed its partnership with Mistral AI for a three‑year period, building on a collaboration initiated in 2023 and formalised through a first Groupwide agreement in 2024.
  • The collaboration now extends beyond access to large language models, covering software, solutions and co‑development research projects.
  • The partnership focuses on high‑value use cases notably within Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) and Commercial Personal Banking & Services (CPBS) divisions, extending to the rest of the Group.

BNP Paribas has been working with Mistral AI since 2023, making it Mistral AI’s longest standing partner in the financial services sector. In 2024, the collaboration was formalised through a first contract, enabling Mistral AI’s models to be integrated into BNP Paribas’ internal large language model infrastructure. The renewed partnership extends the scope of collaboration with Mistral AI’s software and solutions.

BNP Paribas and Mistral AI’s science applied AI and engineering teams will now work more closely together to design and develop generative AI solutions tailored to the bank’s operational and regulatory requirements. This approach prioritises co-development, knowledge transfer and progressive deployment, emphasizing progressive industrialisation and change management. The Group will also explore Mistral AI’s Compute offering as it continues to evolve. The partnership also reflects BNP Paribas’ choice to work with a European technology partner on selected use cases, as part of a broader, multi-model approach to generative AI, guided by performance, data sensitivity and geographic considerations.

Priority use cases

Simplifying access to internal knowledge and research

Across BNP Paribas, teams manage large and growing volumes of structured and unstructured information. Generative AI is being used to enhance internal document search, automate data extraction and support complex financial analyses requiring cross‑referencing multiple sources. Several applications are already deployed internally, while others are in advanced pilot or experimentation phases. The primary benefits relate to time saved by employees, improved reliability of responses to complex queries and easier access to consolidated knowledge.

Supporting sensitive processes through on-premises AI solutions

The partnership also covers the development of AI solutions for processes such as Know Your Customer (KYC), where data sensitivity, security and compliance requirements are particularly high. Generative AI can help automate low value-added steps and orchestrate workflows more efficiently, while maintaining full expert validation of risks and decisions. BNP Paribas and Mistral AI are also collaborating on selected research projects and specialised models, aligned with specific business and risk management needs.

Client and employee assistant

Mistral AI’s models have already been integrated into selected applications developed by BNP Paribas entities. For example, at Hello bank!, the latest version of the virtual assistant HelloïZ, deployed to more than one million clients since January 2026, uses generative AI to better understand customer requests and route them efficiently, while ensuring seamless access to human advisors when needed.

The Group is also rolling out a generative AI employee assistant, notably to enable users to summarise, reformulate and translate content, generate documents and support information analysis. The solution will be deployed in 2026.

“This renewed partnership with BNP Paribas marks a significant milestone in our shared journey to redefine what’s possible with generative AI in financial services. Together, we are not only deploying cutting-edge models but also co-developing bespoke solutions that address the unique challenges and opportunities of the banking sector. BNP Paribas’ trust in Mistral AI as a long-standing partner underscores our commitment to innovation, security, and scalability. By combining our advanced AI capabilities with BNP Paribas’ deep expertise, we are empowering their teams and clients with tools that drive efficiency, insight, and transformation ”.” Marjorie Janiewicz, Chief Revenue Officer at Mistral AI.

“ Our priority is to harness the power of generative AI to create reliable and efficient tools that our teams and clients can use in their day-to-day activities. This partnership with Mistral AI combines advanced cutting-edge models and the collective expertise of our teams, enabling us to design, deploy and scale operational use cases across BNP Paribas where they can drive meaningful impact and value .” Sophie Heller, Chief Transformation Officer of CPBS, BNP Paribas

“ Financial services operate in highly complex, data-intensive environments, where timely access to the right information is essential. Our collaboration with Mistral AI is helping us unlock the full potential of advanced AI models, which our teams are leveraging to develop concrete applications, from internal knowledge and research support to KYC, designed to support our bankers in their daily work and better serve our clients ”. Olivier Osty, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas and Chief Executive Officer of CIB
