JonesTrading Institutional Services, a brokerage firm that specializes in block trading, has appointed Jack Garceau as chief technology officer.

The firm has expanded outside of equities in the past few years and into other asset classes in foreign markets. JonesTrading created the CTO role to be “designed to architect and implement a range of programs covering internal technologies across a variety of functions.”

Garceau has joined JonesTrading at a time where the firm is increasingly expanding infrastructure and its technology base to expand on a global front. Garceau previously worked at Fidessa for over 13 years in various roles. He has also been employed at SunGard, Bloomberg LP and Oppenheimer Funds in a technology-focused role.

“Basically, my vision is to build a network of the best traders supported by the best technology to trade blocks and derivatives throughout the globe,” Packy Jones, chairman and chief executive officer of JonesTrading, told Markets Media. “We’ve been trying to get Jack on board for years. We want to support him and help him build out infrastructure.”
