In Memorium: Cassandra Seier

Tributes were paid to Cassandra Seier, president and chief executive of Women in Financial Markets (WIFM), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to connect, elevate, and advance female leaders in the financial industry, who passed away unexpectedly this past weekend. She is survived by her young son and husband, Thomas Seier.

The WIFM board of directors and advisory council said in an email that this loss is immeasurable.

The email said: “Cassandra touched so many lives across our community, and her absence is already felt in ways that words cannot capture.

Cassandra was a shining light, a visionary leader, and a source of inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of working alongside her. She brought unstoppable energy to WIFM. She led with purpose and conviction, and elevated our mission with every conversation, every initiative, and every event.

She worked tirelessly to build an environment where women felt seen, supported, and empowered to rise. Her belief in what WIFM could become pushed all of us to aim higher, open more doors, and make space for every woman who followed.

Her leadership shaped the very fabric of WIFM. The programs she championed, the community she nurtured, and the opportunities she helped create for thousands of women will continue to guide us for years to come. Cassandra’s legacy lives in every part of this organization because she poured her heart into it. We all looked up to her. We always will.

As we move forward, we will honor Cassandra in ways that reflect her spirit, her generosity, and her belief in lifting others. In the coming days, we will be establishing a scholarship fund in her memory. For those who wish to support this effort, individuals or companies, contributions can be made here.

We would love to capture your special memories of Cassandra here.

May her memory be a blessing, and may her impact continue to guide us.”

NYSE Group said on Instagram that the group had lost a remarkable leader and friend:

“The NYSE Community is devastated by the tragic loss of Cassandra Seier. An integral leader at 11 Wall, Cassandra joined NYSE as Head of International Capital Markets in 2022. She made an immeasurable impact—not only through her expertise but through her generosity as a mentor, colleague, partner, and friend.

Her distinguished career included years at Goldman Sachs and serving as CEO and President of Women in Financial Markets, where she blazed a trail for the next generation of leaders. Cassandra’s strength, determination, vibrancy, and joy touched everyone who knew her and will be remembered by a vast community.

The NYSE will miss Cassandra. Our hearts are with her family and loved ones, always.”

Christopher Perkins, president of Coinfund, said on Linkedin: “Cassandra was always 100% on top of her game, thoughtful, smart and absolute culture carrier. She always owned the room and constantly remained on the cutting edge of forward thought. I’ll miss our conversations. My deepest condolences to her family.”

She earned a BA in Finance with a minor in Economics from the University of Oregon and has been a CFA charterholder since 2004.
